Licences
Every loop, beat and pack on SampleSnap is sold under one of three licences, chosen by its creator and shown on the product page. The licence in force when you buy stays with your purchase. These licences form part of the Terms of Service.
DRAFT: this text is under review and may change before launch.
Rules that apply to every licence
- The licence is personal to the account that bought the product, non-exclusive, worldwide and perpetual. Other buyers receive the same licence.
- You may copy the files to your own devices and backups, and give them to collaborators or engineers working on your project with you.
- You may not sell, share, give away or redistribute the files themselves, whether as they are, renamed, re-pitched, re-sliced or inside another sample pack, kit, preset or template. You may not upload them to another marketplace, stock library or AI training set.
- Your release must be a new work. The product may not be the whole, or substantially the whole, of what you release. Re-uploading a beat with a vocal on top is fine; re-releasing a loop on its own is not.
- The creator keeps the copyright in the product. Where the product contains a melody or recognisable musical phrase, they keep their share of the underlying composition unless you and they agree otherwise in writing.
- A refund ends the licence. If you break these rules the licence ends and you must stop distributing anything that contains the product.
Royalty free
Use the product in any number of your own works, commercial or not, with no further payment to the creator and no credit required.
- Covered: songs, albums, singles, beats you sell, streams, sync in video, games, podcasts, advertising, live performance and broadcasts.
- No cap on copies, streams, views or revenue.
- No credit needed, though it is always welcome.
Credit required
The same rights as Royalty free, on one condition: credit the creator wherever credits are normally given for the release.
- Use the creator's SampleSnap name, or another name they state on their profile, in release notes, liner notes, video descriptions or distributor metadata, for example "contains samples by Jupiter Wave Music".
- Where a platform has no room for credits, a mention in the description or a pinned comment is enough.
- Missing credit is a breach of the licence, which the creator may ask you to fix. Fix it and the licence continues.
Non-commercial
For personal, educational and unreleased work only.
- Covered: practice, learning, demos you do not distribute, portfolio pieces, student work, and sharing privately with friends or a teacher.
- Not covered: anything released, distributed or monetised, including streaming platforms, monetised video, sync, beat sales, paid performance, or use by a company or in advertising.
- If a project outgrows this licence, contact the creator through their profile to agree a commercial licence before you release.
Sample packs
A pack is licensed as a whole under the licence shown on the pack. Every sample inside it carries that licence. The restriction on redistribution applies to each sample as much as to the pack.
